The current Covid-19 situation is causing the population to buy more food and pharmaceutical products. Soldiers from the Vienna Military Command are helping to strengthen the supply chains between wholesale warehouses and local stores: since Thursday evening, twelve construction pioneers have been working for a major pharmaceutical company in wholesalers’ warehouses.

The deployed soldiers are equipped with scanning devices. These are used to scan boxes to determine their contents. They use hand stackers to drive to the designated shelves and fill the empty spaces. Others help to fill a distribution machine with medicine packs. “Of course, our regular operations look a little different. But pharmaceutical wholesale is part of the critical infrastructure. The supply chains to pharmacies must not be weakened. We will ensure this with our support,” says the commander of the construction engineers platoon, Vice Lieutenant Frank P. The construction engineers will support the busy staff of the pharmaceutical retailers from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. for the next two days. The construction engineers of the Vienna Military Command are often the first on the scene when assistance is requested by the Austrian Armed Forces in Vienna.
