AI defense specialist Helsing and AI language model expert Mistral AI recently announced a strategic partnership to jointly develop next-generation AI systems for the defense of Europe.
According to a recent press release, the collaboration will “combine Helsing’s knowledge of AI in military technology – for example in combat drones in Ukraine or the electronic warfare of the Eurofighter – with Mistral’s advanced AI models”. The partnership was presented at the Global AI Summit in Paris and is intended to ensure that humans and AI work better together in war.
The partners’ joint development work will focus on vision-language-action models. These models will enable defense platforms to understand their environment, communicate easily with operators and make faster, more reliable decisions in complex scenarios.
Gundbert Scherf, co-founder of Helsing, says: “Europe needs to show its strength as a global player, and a leading role in AI is crucial for this – both for our security and our prosperity. As the fastest and most ambitious companies in this field, we will help to secure this leadership role in the next generation of defense systems.”
Arthur Mensch, CEO of Mistral AI, says: “Our collaboration with Helsing is helping Europe to become a leader in artificial intelligence. With our Mistral AI models, new defense systems can be created that make Europe stronger and safer.”
Antoine Bordes, Vice President Artificial Intelligence at Helsing, says: “In the future, defense systems will work with artificial intelligence and support humans. Robots and AI will change defense – they will make operations more efficient, reduce threats and help to make decisions faster in difficult situations.”
