This year, the military base in the Garnisonstraße office building in Linz will be closed from July to the end of September due to renovation and conversion work. This means that it will not be possible for Upper Austrians subject to compulsory military service to undergo their military service examinations during this period.
For this reason, and in order to reduce the surplus of conscripts born in 2003 due to the coronavirus, conscripts from the city of Linz will be called up to Graz and conscripts from the districts of Vöcklabruck, Kirchdorf and Eferding will be called up to Klagenfurt for a physical examination. Around 1,700 conscripts are affected by this measure. A rail account card is enclosed with the summons to report for duty so that public transport can be used free of charge. As in Linz, the detention centers in Graz and Klagenfurt offer free board and lodging for the duration of the detention. As a rule, conscripts receive an individual written summons to the physical examinations by post six to eight weeks before the respective posting date (or at shorter notice if necessary). For those liable for military service, being called up in another federal state does not mean that they will be called up there to perform their basic military service.
