The French procurement authority DGA has commissioned Hirtenberger Defence with the delivery of command mortars and ammunition in 60 mm caliber.

The contract, which runs for almost four years, provides for the delivery of a total of 120 M6 C-640 Mk1 command mortars (see Military News infographic) and 18,000 rounds of 60 mm ammunition from the Cdo ammunition family. This is lighter than conventional 60 mm mortar ammunition, and the order includes blasting cartridges (6,000 units) as well as flare, smoke and practice cartridges. The order also provides for the system to be adapted to the specific requirements of the French army. For example, a lightweight “makeshift bipod” is to be developed so that the hand-held command mortar can also be used as a classic bipod mortar if required.
