On December 5, officers and non-commissioned officers from the militia and reserve ranks were promoted, awards were presented and long-serving comrades were discharged from compulsory military service at the Vienna Military Command. The Viennese military commander, Brigadier General Kurt Wagner, welcomed numerous guests to the occasion in the garrison mess of the Maria Theresa Barracks in Vienna. The ceremony was accompanied by music from an ensemble of the guard music under the direction of Kapellmeister Leutnant Hans Groß.

Investing in the future of the armed forces

In his speech, Brigadier Wagner addressed the transformation of the Austrian Armed Forces since today’s retirees, all of whom were born in 1959. Brigadier Wagner thanked all those present, especially those comrades who were retiring: “I would like to thank you for your dedication and commitment, especially for what you have done for the Austrian Armed Forces over the decades. You have also given the Armed Forces what we all probably have the least of, your time, and I ask for your continued support.” After the highlight of the ceremony – the awarding of the decrees – Major Eduard Hauser, Head of Section in Rest, expressed his thanks on behalf of all those honored. He wished the Austrian Armed Forces a successful implementation of the planned procurement measures and the necessary personnel.
