Around 100 cadre candidates completed intensive training at the military training area in Hochfilzen at the end of February. The future professional soldiers were taught basic mountaineering skills such as abseiling, searching for buried victims after an avalanche and preparing combat rations.
“The armed forces gives you experiences that you don’t have in normal life. My personal highlight was snowshoeing and the fictitious search for buried victims after an avalanche. I find the avalanche training in particular very important, as I expect all my comrades to be able to act correctly in such a situation in an emergency,” says one of the professional soldiers with conviction.
Spending the night outdoors
Every soldier’s basic training includes the skills required for outdoor survival. This includes not only building a makeshift shelter or bivouac, but also preparing food. During the week of training in the mountains, the soldiers had to build a shelter with the resources available and spend the night in it. Combat rations were available for the soldiers to eat. “I’m boiling water right now because I’m going to prepare a Combat Ration. The Combat Ration is a daily package for 24 hours. The package includes two main meals, three snacks and a drink,” explains one course participant. https://militaeraktuell.at/grosser-carl-gustaf-auftrag-fuer-saab-aus-polen/ Cadre Candidate Training 2
