Rheinmetall and its strategic partner, the North American helmet manufacturer Galvion, have been commissioned by the Bundeswehr to supply a modern combat helmet.
The framework contract awarded a few days ago provides for the delivery of up to 20,000 units of the “Special Forces Heavy” combat helmet model. An initial call-off of 5,000 helmets was already made in November. Delivery will be made by Rheinmetall Soldier Electronics in Stockach, a specialist in laser light modules with an excellent network in the military equipment sector. The framework agreement runs until 2025, with the option of a two-year extension. The potential total order value is in the low double-digit million euro range. The new combat helmets offer improved protection and high wearing comfort – especially with level-dependent hearing protection and night vision devices. This significantly increases the combat effectiveness of infantry soldiers. The helmets are intended, among other things, for the special and specialized forces with extended basic capability for special operations (EGB forces). Use in the NATO spearhead force VJTF 2023 is also being considered.
