Just 17 months after the contract was signed, the Bundeswehr Procurement Office Bundeswehr took delivery of two new, state-of-the-art medical containers from the contractor on May 8, which are to be delivered to the troops as quickly as possible via the medical service’s logistics department – after the upcoming training courses.
In total, the medical forces will receive three new containers each for computer tomography (CT) and X-ray, partly financed from the special fund. The six new containers with state-of-the-art medical equipment will replace outdated equipment and are all due to be delivered by the end of September 2025.
The containers are part of what is known as the Modular Medical Service Equipment (MSE) – a mobile medical treatment facility of the German Armed Forces that is essentially based on a combination of medical tents and ISO containers. The MSE is the main deployment system of the medical services, especially in the case of national and alliance defense, and is divided into different levels.
While the first two levels are used for general and emergency medical first aid and stabilization as well as initial emergency surgical and internal medical first aid for the wounded, the third level is used for acute clinical care – the emergency hospital.
This third level is where imaging and radiology come into play – the components that the new containers contain. They play an essential role in the diagnosis and treatment of injured soldiers. If they are not needed on deployment, they can also be used in the Bundeswehr’s hospitals in the event of equipment failure or maintenance, for example.
“The close cooperation between the Bundeswehr Healthcare Command, the manufacturing company and the departments involved in the procurement office has made the project a success,” emphasized the project manager on the occasion of the handover. “With the influx of the new, regenerated systems, we expect a noticeable improvement in the operational readiness of the medical service.”
