Since January 20th and until January 31st, the 26th Parachute Regiment of the German Armed Forcesunder the leadership of regiment commander Colonel Oliver Henkel, has been exercising with around 1,200 soldiers at the Oberlausitz military training area. On January 28, the shooting exercise “Cold Storm” is integrated into the exercise. Both the entire exercise and “Cold Storm” are aimed at further enhancing the ability to carry out complex combat shooting and testing operational readiness.

The paratroopers are supported by Luftwaffe fighter jets. In “Cold Storm”, the military support of a NATO-ally following an attack on its territory by a fictitious state is simulated. The live-fire exercise is carried out with three paratrooper companies and support forces, i.e. around 500 soldiers. https://militaeraktuell.at/brigadier-cibulka-wehrpflicht-bundesheer/ Airmobile operations and missions across the entire intensity spectrum are the main mission of Parachute Regiment 26. For this reason, as part of Airborne Brigade 1, it is able to enter combat immediately after an airborne landing. Paratroopers can be deployed with all their equipment and vehicles to crisis areas worldwide within a very short space of time, with Parachute Regiment 26 forming part of the national strategic reserve. Military evacuation operations of German citizens and other people in need of protection as well as armed repatriation are a permanent task of the paratroopers. With the military evacuation operation in Sudan in April 2023 and the pre-stationing on Cyprus for a potential military evacuation in the Middle East in October 2023, the paratrooper regiment has demonstrated its rapid operational readiness.
