The Puma infantry fighting vehicle is equipped with Rheinmetall’s MK30-2/ABM (airburst ammunition) automatic cannon. It combines a high rate of fire with state-of-the-art ammunition technology. This makes the MK30-2/ABM with programmable ammunition an “uncompromising, extremely reliable weapon system”, according to a recent Rheinmetall press release. With an effective range of over 2,000 meters, the MK30-2/ABM is effective against land, air and sea targets.

Rheinmetall is a major supplier of combat ammunition to the Bundeswehr. Rheinmetall produces and supplies the two main combat ammunitions KE-TF DM21 and KE DM33 in 30 mm x 173 caliber for the Puma infantry fighting vehicle. Both ammunitions have been developed to new standards and are qualified in terms of reliability, effectiveness, penetration and precision. The reliable programming of the KE-TF – the abbreviation stands for Kinetic Engergy Time Fuze – enables the Puma infantry fighting vehicle to engage larger soft and semi-hard area targets and is also suitable for engaging drones.
