The Bundeswehr has Rheinmetall with the delivery of more than 1,000 logistics vehicles with a total gross value of around 770 million euros. This includes 963 vehicles with swap-body loader systems (WLS), some of which have a protected driver’s cab, as well as swap-body platforms and curtain-sider bodies. In addition, 425 unprotected transport vehicles (UTF) were called up. UTFs are vehicles of the 4×4 and 8×8 variants.
“As a reliable partner of the Bundeswehr, we are delighted to be delivering further vehicles and thus making a contribution to the mobility and operational readiness of the armed forces,” said André Barthel, CEO of Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles GmbH (RMMV).
Delivery of the approximately 1,400 vehicles ordered will take place this year. The orders have been booked for the third quarter of 2025.
The UTFs are call-offs from the framework framework agreement concluded in July 2024 – the largest order in the company’s history in the field of logistics vehicles. This provides for the delivery of up to 6,500 vehicles with a gross value of up to 3.5 billion euros. The framework agreement gives the Bundeswehr the opportunity to flexibly order further quantities of the already introduced UTF 5 tons and UTF 15 tons over a period of seven years. In addition, the new vehicle class, which is now part of the call-off order, was introduced via the framework agreement. This is the 4×4 variant UTF 3.5 tons, which has a maximum of identical parts to the UTF family.
The UTF family has been making a significant contribution to the performance of the Bundeswehr’s logistics units and formations for several years now. In July 2017, the Bundeswehr commissioned RMMV to supply its new “UTF mil gl family in the 5t and 15t payload classes”. Thanks to the use of flexible framework agreements for large quantities in military procurement, the UTFs have become a flagship project in this respect. Since 2017, around 7,000 HX vehicles have been delivered to the Bundeswehr together with the 70-tonne swap bodies and tractor units.
The UTF and WLS are based on the robust HX vehicle family from RMMV. Designed for military use, they are characterized by high mobility even in difficult terrain. The widespread use of the HX vehicle family worldwide brings significant advantages in terms of interoperability and logistics, particularly with regard to multinational operations. In addition to Germany, these currently include Great Britain, AustraliaNew Zealand, Norway, Sweden, AustriaHungary, Singapore, Slovenia, Denmark and also the Ukraine are among the users. More than 20,000 vehicles are already in use worldwide.
