On December 19, Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner, together with the head of Directorate 7, Johannes Sailer, handed over the newly constructed military training facility for Vienna and Burgenland-North to the Vienna Military Command. From January 29th of next year, those subject to military service will undergo their medical fitness examination there.
“The position is the largest health check-up there is in Austria. It is therefore all the more pleasing that we can offer future conscripts a modern examination and accommodation building with the construction of the new position house in the Van Swieten barracks,” said Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner. “During their posting, the young men get a first impression of the Austrian Armed Forces. The commission is the calling card of the Austrian Armed Forces and we also want to attract and win over those liable to serve in the armed forces. As part of the construction offensive, we are paying particular attention to the modern equipment of our position roads and I am therefore delighted that I was able to hand over the building to the Vienna Military Command today,” said Tanner.

The new station building is located on the site of the Van Swieten barracks and can be accessed directly from Brünnerstrasse. The ground floor of the new building houses all the test rooms, offices, teaching and commission rooms. The upper floor houses the accommodation for cadres and conscripts, including the necessary sanitary facilities. Self-sufficiency measures were implemented in the partial basement of the new building. In addition, 58 parking spaces are available for those required to park. Synergies can be exploited between the Eastern Medical Center and the Positioning Unit in the area of medical analyses (such as blood and urine collection). https://militaeraktuell.at/rheinmetall-liefert-flares-an-die-bundeswehr/ Other positional houses are located in Graz, Klagenfurt, Innsbruck, Linz and St. Pölten. As of November 15, 2023, around 41,200 conscripts of the approximately 43,500 conscripts (of all birth cohorts) who were due to be called up were subjected to a physical examination at all six military service commissions, of which around 28,300 conscripts or 68.7 percent were assessed as fit (including partially fit). As of November 15, approximately 8,340 of the 9,350 conscripts (of all birth cohorts) who were due to be drafted had been drafted by the Vienna draft board, of which approximately 5,350 conscripts or 64.1 percent were assessed as fit (including partially fit).
