Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner congratulated the winter sports athletes of the Austrian Armed Forces for their outstanding achievements in the past season. The army athletes won a total of 33 individual medals and four team medals at the European and World Championships last season.

With their talent, discipline, fairness and team spirit, they serve as role models and inspire people far beyond the world of sport. They show what can be achieved with hard work, passion and perseverance. Their achievements are a valuable enrichment for sport in Austria and an impressive example for all those who are looking for their own path to success.”

In addition to a total of 37 medals at major events, the army athletes also dominated the overall World Cup. Corporal Daniel Tschofenig was crowned overall World Cup winner in ski jumping and also secured the prestigious title of Four Hills Tournament winner. In luge, platoon leader Madeleine Egle shone by winning the overall World Cup in the team relay. Her sister Corporal Selina Egle triumphed together with Corporal Lara Kipp not only in the team relay, but also in the overall doubles World Cup. The men’s team of corporal Juri Gatt, platoon leader Wolfgang Kindl and platoon leader Armin Frauscher were also in top form and won the overall World Cup in the team relay luge.

Corporal Sophie Grill secured the overall World Cup in parachute skiing, a combination of parachuting and giant slalom. Snowboarder platoon leader Arvid Auner secured the overall World Cup in parallel slalom in a heart-stopping final in the last World Cup race of the season. In disabled sports, freerider Johannes Aigner once again confirmed his exceptional position in alpine para-skiing. He won the overall World Cup and also secured the small crystal globe in both the super-G and the downhill. These great successes once again underline the world class of Austrian military athletes in a wide variety of disciplines.
