On January 1, 2025, former Freedom Party member of the National Council Brigadier Reinhard E. Bösch will become the acting Chairman of the Parliamentary Armed Forces Commission. The task of this commission, which is appointed by the Austrian National Council, is to deal with extraordinary complaints from soldiers and to check that everything is in order during inspection visits to all branches of the Austrian Armed Forces at home and abroad.

On the one hand, this involves assisting individuals in cases of injustice and, on the other, supporting the leadership in strengthening the army. Bösch will perform this function until the end of 2026. At the same time, the Vorarlberg native will serve as a brigadier general on the advisory staff of the Chief of Staff of the Austrian Armed Forces in Vienna.

Bösch’s military career began as a one-year volunteer in 1975. After numerous courses and seminars, the doctor of history rose from hunting platoon and company commander through various staff divisions to his current position. Bösch was a member of the Vorarlberg state parliament from 1989 to 1994, a member of the Federal Council from 1994 to 1999 and then, with an interruption, a member of the National Council until 2022. For many years, Bösch held the office of Chairman of the Provincial Defense Committee and the Defense Spokesman of the Freedom Party Parliamentary Club.
