A few days ago, the
Belgian armed forces
officially received their new MQ-9B Sky Guardian drones from
General Atomics
into service. The ceremony took place at the Florennes airbase – in the presence of top military and political representatives, including the Minister of Defense, Chief of the General Staff and Air Force Commander.

The commissioning marks an important step on the way to a modern, networked and future-oriented Belgian armed force that is up to the complex security challenges of the 21st century.

The ceremony was opened by the symbolic cutting of the ribbon and also marked the official commissioning of the new infrastructure for MQ-9B operations in Florennes. Representatives of the armed forces emphasized the importance of this milestone for the modernization of national defence capabilities and their integration into European operations. The
takeover of the first MQ-9B Sky Guardian
had already taken place a few weeks earlier.

Florennes as a new operations and competence center

With the infrastructure built specifically for the operation of the MQ-9B, Florennes will become the operational center of the Belgian drone fleet. The modern, networked facility combines all the essential components for operating the system: control stations, maintenance areas, training facilities and combat command centers. Belgium is thus creating an efficient and future-proof environment for the deployment of its new unmanned aerial vehicles.
