DAF Trucks has received from the Belgian army an additional order for 13 more tractor-trailer combinations for heavy-duty use. This order follows a previous contract for 888 trucks, the last of which will be delivered this year.
In 2022, the Belgian army placed the first order with DAF636 two-axle trucks with 4×4 driveline for general transport applications and 243 four-axle trucks with 8×8 driveline for specific applications (e.g. tipper, container transport, crane operation).
In the same year, a further order was placed for nine tractor-trailer combinations for heavy-duty use, which are designed for fast and safe vehicle recovery in conflict zones. Due to their proven reliability and high off-road capability, the Belgian army has now ordered a further 13 of these protected evacuation vehicles (PEVs).
The new order also includes complete semitrailer combinations consisting of four-axle CF Military semitrailer tractors with all-wheel drive (8×8) and expandable three-axle flatbed semitrailers from Broshuis. The tractor units are equipped with state-of-the-art armored cabs that provide maximum protection for the occupants when recovering vehicles in military operations.
High off-road capability
For the CF Military models, DAF works closely with the Czech company Tatra Trucks. The recovery vehicles, of which the Belgian army has now ordered a further 13 units, are powered by 12.9-liter PACCAR MX 13 engines with an output of 340 kW/460 hp. The armored cabs are supplied by Tatra Army Vehicles
“The PEV, which was specially developed by DAF for the Belgian army, fully meets our requirements,” says Lieutenant Colonel Jean-Francois Gennotte. “In order for our army to better adapt to current geopolitical developments, it is essential to have access to additional, fully identical PEVs within a short period of time. DAF has once again confirmed our confidence, also thanks to the company’s complete transparency.”
“We are deeply honored to receive this third order from the Belgian Army,” says Harald Seidel, President of DAF Trucks. “This proves once again that DAF – in cooperation with our partner Tatra – also offers leading transport solutions for military applications.”
