At the end of December BAE Systems a contract worth more than 65 million euros for the manufacture of a further 44 Beowulf Cold Weather All-Terrain Vehicles (CATVs) from the US Army. US Army. The order includes an additional order worth around 46 million euros to the existing contract for series production, which was awarded in August 2022, as well as an order worth around 19 million euros for financing in 2025.

“The CATV provides the U.S. Army with a dynamic combination of mobility and flexibility that enables rapid response in any terrain,” said Dean Medland, Vice President of Sustainment & International at BAE Systems. “We are proud to support continued CATV production for the U.S. Army and are confident that the vehicle’s universal mission capability and modular design will meet the Army’s future requirements to perform a range of missions from military operations to humanitarian assistance and disaster relief.”

The CATV vehicle is part of the BvS10 family and is based on the unarmored Beowulf variant. The US Army selected the Beowulf in 2022 as a replacement for the Bv206 for Arctic operations to provide a modernized ground platform for operations in the region.

The Beowulf is an amphibious vehicle with two superstructures that simultaneously provides great tactical mobility. It features proven technology designed to provide comprehensive operational support – especially where other vehicles cannot. It is based on combat-proven propulsion technologies that also underpin the BvS10 family currently in service worldwide. The Beowulf is being built by BAE Systems Hägglunds in northern Sweden.
