As part of the large-scale exercise “Baana 25”, the Finnish Air Force is currently training tactics, techniques and procedures for take-offs and landings on a section of highway. The Dutch Air Force is also taking part with F-35A fighter jets.
According to the Finnish Air Force, a central aim of the exercise is also to train cooperation between professional soldiers, reservists and conscripts. Tactics, techniques and procedures for combat operations at the Tikkakoski and Halli air bases and in the Central Finland region will be developed as part of an accompanying basic operations exercise. During the “Baana” part of the exercise, the troops train on a section of freeway, practise the concept of decentralized air force operations and cooperation with allies.

The participants are Finnish conscripts, reservists and professional soldiers as well as allied forces of the Royal Netherlands Air Force – a total of almost 2,000 soldiers.
The flight operations of the “Baana” exercise will take place from May 26 to 29. During this time, highway 4 will be closed in the Tikkakoski area.
