Major General Reinhard Trischak has taken over as Deputy Commander of the Multinational Command Operational Command (MN KdoOpFü) in Ulm. The two-star general succeeds Hungarian Major General Sandor Fucsku, who moved to Berlin as a military attaché in his country’s diplomatic service at the beginning of 2021 after four years of service as deputy commander in Ulm.

Prior to his appointment as Deputy Commander of the Ulm Command, Major General Trischak was deployed as Commander of the European Union Force (EUFOR) in Bosnia-Herzegovina as part of Operation EUFOR ALTHEA (Militär Aktuell reported) and previously held various senior positions at the European Union Military Staff in Brussels.

“We are very pleased to have a general with this extensive EU expertise with us in Ulm and look forward to receiving further reinforcement as one of the EU’s strategic military headquarters,” explains the commander of the Ulm command, Lieutenant General Jürgen Knappe. 58-year-old Reinhard Trischak: “I am very much looking forward to my new task in Ulm, where I will be able to make a significant contribution to the fulfillment of missions within the framework of the EU in the Multinational Command Operational Command.”

Background: The MN KdoOpFü in the Wilhelmsburg barracks is one of five military strategic headquarters permanently on standby in the European Union. Between July 2020 and March 2021, it was on standby to lead the rapid EU intervention force provided by Germany as the framework nation. Soldiers from eight EU nations currently serve in the Ulm Command. With multinational support, the Ulm Command makes a significant German contribution to strengthening the EU’s ability to act in its role as an international anchor of stability and global player in international crisis management. In 2021, the MN KdoOpFü has consolidated its focus on EU tasks with the reorganization and realignment of its mission.
