The Armed Forces reports a further increase in the proportion of women in a recent press release. According to the report, there are currently over 800 female soldiers in active service – in 2022 there were still 645. This includes more than 100 female officers and over 2,700 women in civilian roles.
According to the Bundesheer statement, the number of women among the officers of the General Staff is particularly pleasing, with three times as many women as in 2021. There has also been an increase of around 13 percent among non-commissioned officers and the number of female civilian employees has risen by around 17 percent in the past four years, according to the statement.
Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner: “Leadership knows no gender, the Austrian Armed Forces live this every day and also take targeted measures. With every woman who takes on responsibility, whether in uniform or civilian, we strengthen our operational capability and send a clear signal for equal opportunities. Our path is clear: we build on competence, diversity and cohesion. This is what makes our army strong, today and in the future.”
