On April 24, Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner and the Director General of the Austrian Workers’ Compensation Board (AUVA), Alexander Bernart, signed a declaration of intent. The aim of this declaration is to ensure comprehensive acute medical care in crisis and disaster situations. A strategic intensification of cooperation aims to more closely interlink military and civilian resources and to improve the care of members of the Armed Forces easier.

In addition, the strengths of both institutions will be combined and, for example, joint training and further education measures will be developed. “Both AUVA and the Austrian Armed Forces as well as the entire Austrian healthcare system will benefit from this cooperation. The Austrian Armed Forces have in-depth medical expertise that will enable the AUVA to be even more efficient,” said Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner.

In order to make efficient use of existing structures, AUVA and the Ministry of Defense are pursuing the goal of increasing efficiency and reducing costs at the same time. A task force is being set up to implement these joint objectives. A detailed concept is to be drawn up by the summer.

AUVA Director General Bernart emphasized: “Our cooperation stands for lived resilience and responsibility towards Austria. Through the close exchange of knowledge and experience, we are strengthening medical care, securing expertise and contributing to the sustainable further development of both institutions.”

With this strategic partnership, AUVA and the Austrian Armed Forces are demonstrating how central supply and security structures in Austria can be strengthened through targeted cooperation – for the benefit of society and as a contribution to the country’s long-term resilience.
