From July 29 to 31, the Army Championship 2025 in team pentathlon was held at the sports facilities of the Military Academy. It was organized by the Military Academy in cooperation with the Army Sports Centre – a total of nine teams from Carinthia, Lower Austria, Salzburg and Styria competed.
The military pentathlon is considered the supreme discipline of military sport. It requires an extraordinary combination of concentration, nerves of steel, jumping ability, agility, courage, willingness to take risks, fine motor skills and explosive speed – as well as above-average stamina and mental strength. The complex motor, mental and psychological demands reflect the entire spectrum of basic military skills required both in peacetime operations and in combat.
Four competitors compete in the team pentathlon. Mixed teams are also permitted, there is no age distinction. Shooting is carried out as a team competition: After a 200-meter team run, ten shots must be fired within three minutes. The obstacle course is designed as a relay with four sections, with 16 of the 20 obstacles to be completed. The swimming takes place in a 4×50-meter relay format, the number of throws is divided among the team members during the throwing, and the final cross-country run is carried out as a 4×1,000-meter relay race.
Traditionally, the competition was opened with the shooting competition. The Lower Austria 1 team – consisting of soldiers from the 12th and 33rd Jäger battalions – was already a clear winner in this first competition. The team also prevailed on the obstacle course and further extended its lead.

Lower Austria 1 remained unbeaten in the 4×50-meter swimming relay as well as in the target and long throw and therefore went into the final round as clear favorites after the second day of competition. Team Salzburg 1 secured second place with the second-best swimming time.
In the final 4×1,000-meter relay race, Team Lower Austria 1 confidently maintained its lead and was crowned Army Champion 2025 with an impressive overall performance.
