On Tuesday, Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner spoke with Upper Austria’s Governor Thomas Stelzer about the upcoming massive investments at the Vogler Air Base in Hörsching. A total of 1.2 billion euros are to be invested over the next few years.

The “Reconstruction Plan 2032+” provides the basis for the Austrian Armed Forces’ procurement measures – including those for the Austrian Air Force. In Hörsching the new transport aircraft (C-390 Embraer) and the new new Black Hawks (UH 60-M) will find their military home in Hörsching. In addition, the jet trainers still to be procured (-> Austrian Armed Forces examines offer for M-346FA from Leonardo) will also take off and land in Hörsching in future.

“Hörsching is an important location for the Austrian Armed Forces in the province of Upper Austria, but also for our air force. Over the next few years, the Austrian Armed Forces will also be spending a lot of money to bring the infrastructure up to date. Investments will be made in the building fabric – including new buildings – and the goal of expanding the self-sufficiency of the barracks will also be advanced. In Hörsching, we will invest around 1.2 billion euros in this area alone as part of the ‘Aufbauplan 2032+’,” said Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner.

The money will be used to create new hangars and equip the air support brigade accordingly so that it can carry out its missions at home and abroad more efficiently. The construction offensive will create modern accommodation and facilities for soldiers and civilian staff and will amount to several million euros over the next few years. The construction measures will affect the Wels, Ried, Enns, Linz and Hörsching sites.

“The stationing of the new jet trainers in Hörsching and the investments in the infrastructure in Hörsching, Wels and Ried underline the central importance of Upper Austria for the Austrian Armed Forces. I am delighted that our province will continue to be a powerful location in the future,” emphasized the Governor of Upper Austria, Thomas Stelzer.
