According to recent Czech media reports, the Philippine Air Force continues to show great interest in acquiring twelve L-39NG Skyfox jet trainers from the Czech manufacturer Aero Vodochody. At the beginning of MayDefense Mirror reported an interest from the Philippines in the Czech jet trainer. The portal quoted Viktor Sotona, CEO and President of Aero Vodochody: “The Philippine Air Force is currently looking for a replacement for its outdated S-211 trainers, which are mainly used to train fighter pilots. The L-39NG concept offers the Air Force several advantages. Among its greatest strengths are the comprehensive training system, which includes not only the aircraft itself, but also the training of pilots and ground personnel, simulation solutions, an advanced maintenance concept and integrated weapon systems.”
The L-39NG Skyfox is primarily designed as a basic and advanced trainer, but can also be used in a variety of other roles – including light combat, close air support, counter-insurgency and reconnaissance.
According to reports from the Czech Republic, the Czech Republic has also offered the Philippines a financing model with a term of up to 15 years as part of a credit agreement.
If the deal goes through, the Philippine Air Force would be sent to Vietnam (-> handover of six L-39NGs to Vietnam) the second operator of the system in Asia.
