Personnel news at the Bundeswehr: Recently the command of the Operational Flotilla 2 (EF2) of Flotilla Admiral Axel Schulz (-> Interview with Militär Aktuell) to his successor, Kapitän zur See Sven Beck. Schulz had been at the helm of EF2 since September 2021, i.e. for just over three years.
“I look back on a very fulfilling and exciting time as Flotilla Commander and consider it a great privilege to have been able to lead Flotilla 2 over the past few years. Not least during the Indo-Pacific Deployment, I was able to see for myself the operational readiness of my flotilla and the commitment of the men and women on board,” said Flotilla Admiral Schulz, looking back on his time in command of Flotilla 2. He also said that, in Sven Beck, he had an experienced successor who would continue along the path he had taken with Flotilla 2. Looking ahead to his upcoming time as Commander, he said: “I am delighted and consider it a great honor and privilege to take command of Operational Flotilla 2. I returned to my military home seven months ago when I assumed responsibility as Chief of Staff. With the wide range of operations of our units, we serve all missions of the Bundeswehr – deterrence and defense begin right here at our home base.”
Operational flotilla 2
Operational Flotilla 2 is one of the three major units of the German Navy. It comprises the navy’s frigates, task force supply ships and fleet tankers. These large workhorses of the fleet and their crews shoulder an important part of the Bundeswehr’s maritime operations. With their capabilities, they secure long-term, global maritime missions. Around 4,000 soldiers and civilian employees belong to Operational Flotilla 2 and its squadrons.
