On National Day, 700 recruits from Salzburg and Upper Austria took the oath of allegiance to the Republic of Austria on the sports field of the Schwarzenberg barracks. The swearing-in ceremony took place with soldiers from Pioneer Battalion 2, Jäger Battalion 8, Command Support Battalion 2, the Radar Battalion, the Mountain Combat Center and Armoured Staff Battalion 4.

For the flag parade, the federal flag, accompanied by the Salzburg provincial flag, was flown in by parachutists from the Fighter Command and handed over to the flag hoisers.

In his speech, the military commander of Salzburg, Brigadier Peter Schinnerl, welcomed numerous guests of honor and representatives from politics, culture, business and traditional associations. He congratulated the 700 recruits and paid tribute to their decision to serve with arms and make their contribution to the state and society. The garrison mayor, Andreas Hasenöhrl, was delighted with this major swearing-in ceremony in the Schwarzenberg barracks and emphasized that he was proud of the soldiers.

Highlight of the swearing-in ceremony

The recruits’ pledge of allegiance, impressively pronounced with a powerful “I pledge…!” followed by a solemn “…to serve!”, marked the highlight of the ceremony. The Historische Landwehrschützen Wals honored the new recruits with a salute. This was followed by a flyover by a Eurofighter fleet, during which one of the pilots conveyed his best wishes to the recruits from the cockpit.
