For more than twelve years now, the Armed Forces has been offering children of service personnel the opportunity to take part in temporary childcare during the summer vacations. The children are looked after by a professional organization in 15 different barracks. The necessary infrastructure is generally provided by the Armed Forces.

Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner commented on the campaign: “By enabling our employees’ children to make use of temporary childcare, we are fulfilling the employer’s duty of care towards employees. In order to make it possible for many employees to combine work and family life, we are constantly working to further optimize this offer. The ever-increasing number of applications confirms that we are on the right track.”

“However, it is also important that the children have a carefree time during their summer vacation with lots of exciting adventures, meet new friends and can have lots of fun under professional supervision,” she continued.

Children aged three to twelve are looked after for a maximum of four weeks in the federal states of Lower Austria, Upper Austria, Salzburg, Styria and Vienna. The highest participation is in Styria, where childcare is offered in the barracks in Zeltweg, St. Michael, Graz, Feldbach and Straß. The care period extends from July 1 to August 30. A total of more than 700 children are registered for childcare this year.
