General Dynamics European Land Systems-Mowag has signed a contract with Denmark for 309 Piranha 5s worth around 500 million euros.

General Dynamics European Land Systems has concluded a contract with the Danish Procurement Agency (DALO) for the delivery of 309 Piranha protected wheeled vehicles in six versions (infantry, commando, ambulance, engineer, mortar and repair) as well as a multi-year maintenance contract. The contract was signed on December 15, 2015 and comprises an order volume of around 500 million euros. Delivery of the ordered vehicles will begin in 2018 and continue until 2023. The Piranha 5 will continuously replace the existing M113 vehicles and will form the future backbone of the Danish Armed Forces’ fleet of armored vehicles. “It is very important that we invest in Denmark’s security. The Piranha 5 offers better protection than our existing armored vehicles, so this procurement improves the operational capability of our army for future challenges,” said the Danish Minister of Defense, Peter Christensen. “General Dynamics European Land Systems is very proud to have been awarded this contract as it demonstrates the confidence and satisfaction of our Danish customer with the Piranha 5,” emphasized Alfonso Ramonet, President of General Dynamics European Land Systems, and added: “The Piranha 5 is particularly impressive with its high protection against ballistic threats, mines and improvised explosive devices and its excellent mobility both on and off the road.” The contract was signed by General Dynamics European Land Systems-Mowag, the Swiss subsidiary of General Dynamics European Land Systems. @GDELSFacts about the Piranha 5
