On Monday, the celebrations to mark the 20th anniversary of the Strategic Leadership Course took place in the Ceremonial Hall of the Hofburg. In the presence of numerous high-ranking guests of honor, the graduates of the 20th Strategic Leadership Course were congratulated by Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner.
“The strategic leadership course is now networking decision-makers at the highest level for the twentieth time. It is one of the most exclusive courses in Austria and has now firmly established itself as the Republic’s leadership course. My congratulations go to all the graduates and the organizational team at the National Defence Academy,” said Tanner.

The “Austrian Security and Defense Doctrine” came into force with the resolution of the National Council on December 12, 2001, which laid the foundation for the establishment of the Strategic Leadership Course. The first Strategic Leadership Course started in April 2004 and has since been held annually under the direction of the National Defense Academy. Together, the graduates strengthen their knowledge and awareness in order to develop strategic thinking and action in the interests of their company or organization. Those who are part of this strategic community can sustainably strengthen their own leadership and decision-making skills beyond the course. More than 400 graduates are currently part of this strategic community.
Each year, around 20 selected leaders and decision-makers from all areas of society relevant to security policy are given the opportunity to deal with national and international strategic challenges and opportunities and to recognize the limits of overcoming them.
