On Thursday, the Armed Forces opened its barracks gates to girls and young women across Austria for the annual Girls’ Day. 1,964 female visitors braved the bad weather and took the opportunity to find out about the diverse career opportunities and varied fields of activity in the Armed Forces at nine selected locations in all federal states.
The aim of the event is to give young women and girls an authentic insight into the profession of a soldier and to inspire them to pursue a career in the armed forces.

Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner: “Girls and women make an indispensable contribution to our society – and also to the armed forces. Girls’ Day impressively demonstrates how diverse the opportunities are for young women in the military. Those who get involved are not measured by gender boundaries, but by ability, courage and team spirit. It is our common task to encourage girls and women to go their own way – with self-confidence, equal rights and real prospects.”
