Starting today, a further 18,000 soldiers in the Austrian Armed Forces will receive new combat helmets. The previous models will be handed in by the troops and 10,000 Kevlar helmets will be handed over to Ukraine as humanitarian support for the civilian population. 22,000 of the new “Combat Helmets 2015” have already been in use for several years.

“Protecting our soldiers is our top priority. I am therefore delighted that the next tranche of new combat helmets can now be issued to the troops. At the same time, this new equipment will enable us to make the previous helmet models available to Ukraine as urgently needed protective clothing for the civilian population. The current crisis in Europe between Ukraine and Russia shows that the Armed Forces must be geared towards new threats and modernized,” says Defence Minister Klaudia Tanner. https://militaeraktuell.at/der-hightech-kampfhelm/ The “Combat Helmet 2015” protects the soldiers’ heads. Composite materials such as carbon, polyethylene and woven aramid ensure exceptional strength. The “Sentry XP Mid Cut Helmet” from American production weighs around 920 grams, almost 40 percent less than the previous helmet. This makes it more comfortable for soldiers to wear – also thanks to individual adjustment options – especially during longer missions. In addition to its protective effect, the helmet also serves as a mounting platform. For example, night vision devices, goggles, visors or headsets for voice transmission can be attached to the mounting rails. The army has purchased various covers for the helmets. Depending on the season, there are green and white covers, and blue ones are also available for UN missions. The soldiers are currently handing in their previously used Kevlar helmets in order to receive their new combat helmets starting today. 10,000 of the Kevlar helmets will be made available to Ukraine.
